Checking New FEMA Flood Map – Sarasota County

Screen Shot 2015-02-09 at 2.45.49 PMBy Robert Milligan, Qualifying Broker: So you are shopping for a new home, or wondering how the new FEMA flood map affects your existing property in Sarasota County.  Fortunately there is a simple way to check if your property falls in a flood zone and if so, which flood zone it is in. The simple, user friendly map is found at this link: (Click Here)

For a more complex and detailed map showing base flood height elevations, you can search the flood map directly on FEMA’s website at this link: (Click Here)

On the FEMA site, you’ll need to choose FL and Sarasota County in the drop down menu’s.  You’ll need to zoom in on the index map to find the panel number, write that down so you can download the corresponding PDF with detailed flood zone info.  If you have any questions feel free to reach out to us or your property insurance expert.  Keep in mind that if any portion of the property is in a flood zone, or is in two flood zones, your insurer will consider the entire property to be in the most restrictive of the two zones.

If you are interested in purchasing or selling a property in or near our waterfront communities, we can be reached at 941-999-1179 and would be happy for the opportunity to work with you!
