By Jackie Gonzales, Realtor: Are you thinking about buying a home in Sarasota or Bradenton and don’t know where to start? The first step will be figuring out how much you can afford to spend. (Click here to view good first home options) You will need to decide whether you’re going to pay cash or require financing and how much the closing costs will be. If you will require financing you will want to check all three of your credit reports (Equifax, Experian and Trans Union) to make sure there are no errors.
Find the mortgage company that best fit your needs. Not all mortgage companies and banks are created equal. There are many different fixed and adjustable rate mortgages, all having advantages and disadvantages. Gather your documents, such as last several tax returns, bank statements and get a pre-approval. Next, hire a great Realtor to help you find your home. Do not open any new credit such as a new car, or credit card while in the process of purchasing your home, this could jeopardize your financing.
Visit different areas to see where you would like to live. Go at multiple times of the day to get a good feel of the area. Making a list of the features you must have and would like to have will help in your search. Decide whether you would like a condo, townhouse, single family home, and how many bedrooms and bathrooms you will need. If you need a garage include how many cars you need to fit in the garage. Include any information you feel may help the Realtor in your search.
Put an offer on the property you feel is right for you. Get all requested documents to the mortgage company as soon as you can to ensure the deadlines on the contract are met. Following these steps will help make it a smooth transaction. If you are looking for a home, whether you know for sure you are ready or not, please contact your Realtor.
